Hello, I'm Ailsa Frank. For over twenty years, I have been helping clients with my hypnotherapy alcohol reduction system.
I connect with clients around the world in calls or at my clinic in St Albans or in London. I help people to begin to break the cycle of alcohol, reduce their intake, or stop altogether. The sessions are tailored to each client as everyone is different.
My alcohol reduction program isn't about willpower; it's about changing your subconscious mindset. I help you gain control of your choices by lessening the need for the drink. Using alcohol aversion techniques and positive coping strategies, drinking less can become more natural.
My clients are everyday people whose drinking has crept up: stay-at-home mums, working parents, business owners, employees, anyone stressed, lonely, bored, people living alone, actors, singers, performers, and those navigating divorce, heartbreak, bereavement, sleep issues or other life challenges.
My approach is to help clients deal with the emotional root cause of their drinking and help them to reduce safely over several sessions at a pace that works, rather than abstaining from day one like many other programs.
My clients often tell me:
You decide your goal:
“Since the hypnotherapy, I now feel in control of the alcohol instead of alcohol controlling me.”
Janet, Surrey

My approach is designed for people who want to change their relationship with alcohol, whether that means drinking less or stopping entirely.
You do not need to have hit "rock bottom." Many of my clients are high-functioning individuals who simply recognise that alcohol is taking more than it gives. If any of the following sounds like you, this hypnotherapy could be the breakthrough you need.
I’ll guide you step by step to achieve lasting change.
At home on the phone: I connect with English-speaking clients worldwide (UK, Europe, USA, Australia) via phone or WhatsApp audio, which works exceptionally well for hypnotherapy.
In-Person: I also see clients face-to-face at clinics at the Portland Clinic in Wimpole Street, London (W1) or in St Albans.

90 Minutes: The first half is a relaxed discussion. We talk about what is going on in your life and what you want to work on. We discuss patterns, triggers and goals. In the second half, I guide you through a tailored hypnotherapy session to release root causes and begin making changes immediately. You can cover multiple issues in each session.

60–75 Minutes: These are usually spaced two weeks apart to reinforce the changes and address any new layers that come up. Each session deepens the changes. You can have a top up at time in the future. Some clients like to have regular sessions to deal with life , work and business issues as they arise.

I typically work with clients over 2 to 4 appointments. I believe in a bespoke approach, some hypnotherapists might try to sign you up for a long, expensive course. I don't work that way. I start with a minimum of two appointments, with further sessions booked only based on your individual needs.

Really impressed with the results of the alcohol hypnosis, very pleased. I never imagined I could just leave wine in the bottle and not feel the urge to finish it. The hypnosis recordings work really well.

I was drinking at least one bottle of wine per night; now I drink occasionally and never on my own. Your hypnotherapy approach allows me to have the odd drink with friends socially.

It is three years since I stopped drinking alcohol due to the hypnotherapy, thank you so much.

Michelle from Dublin, Ireland
Really impressed with the results of the alcohol hypnosis appointments, very pleased. I never imagined I could leave wine in the bottle without feeling the urge to finish it. The hypnosis recordings work really well at relaxing me.
Jan from Seattle, Washington
Since the hypnotherapy I've stopped arguing with teenage children, they seem more relaxed, and I do too
Mary from Bracknell, Berkshire
I thought the alcohol reduction centre was the only option to stop drinking until I found your website, and that is when everything began to make sense. Ailsa, your approach and easy-going attitude made me feel safe and not judged in any way. Your knowledge helped me understand and change my choices. I didn't realise that hypnotherapy would be so helpful for my whole life. I am more in control and like myself more. I feel more positive and very relaxed. I feel less guilty about silly little things which in the past could have felt monumental, but now I can take them in my stride. The follow-up tools you taught me are valuable during times of stress. I enjoy the hypnosis sleep recordings to get me off to sleep instead of drinking.
Mrs K Egham, Surrey
Best value: I have saved so much money since reducing my alcohol.
Chris. 'Take Control of Alcohol' hypnotherapy recording
I didn't want to quit alcohol altogether, but my binge drinking at weekends was becoming more common. I didn't know how to stop drinking. Most Mondays, I was going into work looking wrecked, but the first Monday after the hypnosis, I woke on that Monday morning looking ten years younger, as I had been so in control of my weekend drinking. My skin wasn't sweating, and my face wasn't red anymore, and that was just after a few days. I was really impressed with the results. Hypnotherapy is a great prevention for alcohol-related illness.
Jason from Dundee, Scotland
I wasn't convinced to begin with that the hypnotherapy for alcohol would help, as I was scared it wouldn't, but it has. My marriage has improved as a result. The relaxing hypnosis download really helps, too. The wine sits in the fridge, and I have no interest in pouring it
Patricia from Ascot, Surrey
Having used alcohol to get to sleep for much of my adult life, it is refreshing that I sleep much better without alcohol, not waking in the night at 3 am like before. I am enjoying a much deeper sleep since listening to the alcohol hypnosis downloads. I thought I would need a personalised session, but the recordings have done the trick.
Valerie from Houston, Texas
Drinking under control since the second hypnotherapy appointment, and I haven't even thought about using cocaine. Feeling very calm about the future, whereas before, I was incredibly fearful and stressed. It feels good to be in control.
Samantha from Birmingham
I was sceptical about doing the hypnotherapy over the phone, but it worked really well. Now I don't have any urges for alcohol, and the obsession with drinking has slipped away.
Dawn from Dubai
Before the hypnotherapy, I was bullied at work, and then I was drinking 1-2 bottles of wine at home every evening. Ailsa helped me not only to break the drinking habit but also she changed my confidence and perception of work and how to deal with a bullying boss. Without Ailsa, I would have run away from the job, but now I enjoy work, and the boss doesn't bother me anymore. I also released the overwhelming grief over the loss of my Mother, Father and Sister, which happened in a short space of time a couple of years ago. The whole experience has been, incredibly, quite life-changing.
Frances from the UK
I certainly feel calmer, happier and sleep better than I have done in ages. A journalist writing for Telegraph online using the Stop Binge Drinking for Women recording.

Think of hypnotherapy as a fully conscious, deep relaxation. It feels a bit like that lovely, heavy moment when you wake up in the morning but can’t be bothered to get up yet. You are safe, in control, and awake the whole time.
In this relaxed state, your mind is more open to positive suggestions. Your current drinking habit is simply an "alcohol programme" running in your subconscious. The hypnotherapy acts like a software update: we rewrite that old programme, allowing you to easily create new habits. It is a powerful shift in thinking that helps you finally make the choices you’ve been trying to make for years.
You might feel sceptical or worried that it "won't work for you." That is completely normal. Most of my clients say they wish they had done this sooner.
Alcohol to Unwind: Reaching for a drink the second you finish a stressful day.
Weekend Regret: Waking up with shame, guilt, or memory blackouts after binge drinking.
Controlled by Alcohol: Being determined on a Monday to drink less, but failing by Wednesday.
Hidden Habits: Drinking alone, hiding bottles, or drinking to sleep.
Emotional Numbing: Drinking because you are bored, lonely, or anxious.
Health Impact: Feeling sluggish, gaining weight, or worrying about health issues.
Relationship Strain: Arguments, aggression, or offending loved ones while drunk.
If you answered "yes" to any of these, you just need the right tools to change and I can help you.
I use proven hypnotherapy, NLP, CBT, coaching andreframing techniques. I access your subconscious mind to identify and releasethe emotional drivers behind your drinking. You remain aware and in controlthroughout.
If you aren't ready for one-to-one sessions yet, you can begin listening immediately with my Feel Amazing Hypnotherapy App. It features over 60 recordings.
Full Access: Costs less than £1 per week (£45 annual membership or £7.99 monthly).

“I really love this app... clear and calming voice. It is working wonders for me.”

Hypnotherapy is a practical, evidence-based tool. While it is famous for stopping smoking, recent research shows it is highly effective for rewriting alcohol habits.
Hypnotherapy can have a positive effect on reducing drinking. In a study of 31 participants being treated for alcohol use disorder, the group receiving hypnotherapy reported higher rates of complete abstinence and less emotional stress compared to those using Motivational Interview Therapy.

Why it matters now: Facts about alcohol harm
The Audit Commission and Institute of Alcohol Studies have highlighted that economic pressure often leads to increased alcohol misuse.
Cancer Risk:Around 4% of UK cancers are caused by alcohol.
Record Levels: In 2023, alcohol-specific deaths in England reached their highest level since records began.
The Cost:Alcohol harm costs society £27.4 billion a year.
Alcohol units can be confusing. The safest way to approach drinking is to give your body regular breaks to detox. An occasional social drink is far safer than daily consumption.
Alcohol harm costs £27.4 billion a year in England. That includes crime & disorder (£14.6bn), NHS/healthcare (~£5.1bn, with ~£3bn in A&E and admissions), lost productivity to the wider economy (£4.6bn), and social services (£2.9bn). That’s roughly £485 per person on average (higher in the North East). Source: Institute of Alcohol Studies. (Institute of Alcohol Studies)
Around 4% of UK cancers (about 17,000 cases a year) are caused by alcohol. All types of alcoholic drink increase risk of at least seven cancers (breast, bowel, head & neck, oesophageal, liver, stomach). Health charities are calling for clearer warning labels and a new national alcohol strategy. (stsft.nhs.uk)
In 2023, England saw 8,274 alcohol-specific deaths (rate 15.0 per 100,000), the highest since records began; up 4.6% vs 2022 and 63.8% vs 2006. Alcohol-related deaths (a wider measure) also hit a record high in recent years. (GOV.UK)
There were 342,795 alcohol-specific hospital admissions in 2021–22 (rate 626 per 100,000). That’s one of the clearest signs of pressure on A&E and inpatient care. (GOV.UK)
An estimated ~608,000 adults in England are alcohol-dependent in a typical year, while far fewer get structured treatment. (Access varies by area and service capacity.) (GOV.UK)
Post-pandemic drinking patterns, stretched services, and low awareness of cancer risk have pushed harms to the forefront. Leading organisations are urging clearer health messaging and policy action. (GOV.UK)

OHID (Gov.uk) – Alcohol Profile, Feb 2025 (deaths and trends). (GOV.UK)
OHID (Gov.uk) – Hospital admissions 2021–22 (342,795 figure). (GOV.UK)

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS / WCRF – Cancer risk & £100m NHS cost; calls for clearer labels. (stsft.nhs.uk)
The public service watchdog, the Audit Commission, has warned that the economic downturn could lead to specific health problems, including misuse of alcohol. If you answered yes to any one of the above questions, then chances are it may be time to consider why you are drinking in the first place and to start to examine the emotional issues connected with the overdrinking. Hypnotherapy can break the habit of drinking from the subconscious mind whilst dealing with the reasons behind the drinking.

Gentle daily support for stress, sleep, anxiety, alcohol and habits.
