Gentle, practical support for children’s and teenagers’ worries, habits and stress in 2-4 appointments
Hello, I’m Ailsa Frank. For over twenty years, I have been a leading hypnotherapist in the UK, connecting with clients around the world. I work with children and teens to help them release worries, bad habits and unhelpful beliefs, so they can feel calmer, happier and more confident in themselves.
Children and young people today are under huge pressure:
All of this can build up inside them and show as:
Hypnotherapy can also enhance positive performance in sports, music, auditions and interviews, helping young people feel calmer and more focused instead of overwhelmed.
Research suggests hypnosis can be particularly helpful for children and adolescents, when combined results from multiple studies were pooled, showing some of the largest treatment effects in younger age groups compared with adults. Younger people tend to be more creative and are more open to suggestions making hypnotherapy perfect for them.I use proven hypnotherapy, NLP, CBT, coaching and reframing techniques. I access the subconscious mind to identify and release the emotional drivers behind the issues.
“I felt really confident during the audition and I got a place – thanks for helping my dream come true.”

Children’s and teens’ hypnotherapy may help if you notice:
I’ll guide you step by step to achieve lasting change.
At home on the phone: I connect with English-speaking clients worldwide (UK, Europe, USA, Australia) via phone or WhatsApp audio, which works exceptionally well for hypnotherapy.
In-Person: I also see clients face-to-face at clinics at the Portland Clinic in Wimpole Street, London (W1) or in St Albans.

90 Minutes: The first half is a relaxed discussion. We talk about what is going on in your life and what you want to work on. We discuss patterns, triggers and goals. In the second half, I guide you through a tailored hypnotherapy session to release root causes and begin making changes immediately. You can cover multiple issues in each session.

60–75 Minutes: These are usually spaced two weeks apart to reinforce the changes and address any new layers that come up. Each session deepens the changes. You can have a top up at time in the future. Some clients like to have regular sessions to deal with life , work and business issues as they arise.

I typically work with clients over 2 to 4 appointments. I believe in a bespoke approach, some hypnotherapists might try to sign you up for a long, expensive course. I don't work that way. I start with a minimum of two appointments, with further sessions booked only based on your individual needs.

The hypnotherapy helped my son with anger issues and also taught me how to behave towards him and since changing my behaviour my son responds well to me. His naughty behaviour was just his frustration of the expectations of me and we had formed a bad pattern of communication which was making both our lives stressful. Now I am more relaxed he is too and we have fun together.

I am sleeping really well and enjoy listening to the hypnosis recording at bedtime instead of watching T.V. in bed which used to leave me worrying about violent things that I had seen. The bad dreams have stopped and I feel it is easier to concentrate at school. I feel really positive and I have more confidence to take part with my friends.

Think of hypnotherapy as a fully conscious, deep relaxation. It feels a bit like that lovely, heavy moment when you wake up in the morning but can’t be bothered to get up yet. You are safe, in control, and awake the whole time.
In this relaxed state, your mind is more open to positive suggestions. The hypnotherapy acts like a software update: we rewrite that old programme, allowing you to easily create new habits. It is a powerful shift in thinking that helps you finally make the choices you’ve been trying to make for a long time.
I use hypnotherapy in a very down-to-earth way, combining it with common-sense advice so children and teens feel understood, relaxed and more in control.
Important: Hypnotherapy is a complementary approach, not a replacement for medical or mental health care. If your child has significant mental health difficulties (such as severe anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-harm or suicidal thoughts), they should be under the care of a GP and/or child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) or another qualified professional.
Hypnotherapy can often sit alongside counselling, CBT, school support and medical treatment.
You might feel sceptical or worried that it "won't work for you." That is completely normal. Most of my clients say they wish they had done this sooner.
Anxiety & worries: worries about school, social media, health, safety, burglars, the environment or “something bad happening”
School and exam stress: avoiding school, fear of teachers, entrance exams, study blocks and exam nerves
Confidence & self-esteem: shyness, not joining in, fear of speaking up, wanting to please everyone
Sleep problems & nightmares: Night terrors, waking or repetitive dreams
Physical symptoms with no clear cause: tummy pains, headaches, fatigue (after the GP has checked things medically)
Social & online issues: bullying, social media anxiety, gaming addiction, screen overuse
Body image & eating issues: feeling “fat” or “not good enough”, comparing themselves to others, starting unhelpful eating patterns
Specific fears & phobias: thunderstorms, dentists, needles, sleeping alone, dogs, public toilets, travel
Life events & loss: the death of a grandparent or pet, family changes, parents divorce, teen heartbreak
I see children and teens for a wide range of problems, including all the above
Up to about age five, children naturally absorb what they are told, almost like being in a light hypnotic state. Comments such as “you’re naughty”, “you’re clumsy” or “you’re chubby” can become part of their core beliefs.
Later on, older children and teens may still accept other people’s opinions as “truth”:
Hypnotherapy gives us a way to update those old messages so your child or teenager can feel more secure in who they are.
Children and teenagers sometimes develop physical symptoms such as tummy pains, headaches, migraines or fatigue as a result of stress or emotional distress.
It is essential that any physical problem is checked by a GP or paediatrician first. If no clear medical cause is found and stress is suspected, hypnotherapy can help release the underlying worries and ease symptoms.
For example, one little girl I saw had tummy pains that kept her off school. Her GP could find no physical problem. After one hypnotherapy session, she returned to school happily and was soon singing at home and playing with her sister. Letting go of her fears about a new school helped the pains disappear.
Children pick up your stress and habits, even when you don’t realise:
In sessions, I often give parents simple strategies to:
I also recommend parents consider a hypnotherapy session or recordings for themselves to ease their own stress and worries, as this happier relaxed new you will have a direct positive effect on your children.

Research into hypnotherapy for children and teens is growing:
Reviews of clinical hypnosis in paediatrics report benefits across pain, functional gut disorders, anxiety and procedure-related distress, and highlight that hypnosis can increase young people’s sense of control and reduce stress. European Journal of Pediatrics, 2023
A large meta-analysis of hypnosis found particularly strong effects in children and adolescents compared with adults across various conditions. Rosendahl et al., 2024 – Frontiers in Psychology
Randomised trials in children with functional abdominal pain, IBS and nausea suggest hypnotherapy can significantly reduce symptoms and improve daily life compared with standard care or waitlisted controls.
Smaller studies show promising results for anxiety, bedwetting and insomnia, with good to excellent outcomes in many children and no reported adverse effects.
Clinical research suggests hypnotherapy can be helpful for some children’s problems:
A JAMA Paediatrics trial found that both individual hypnotherapy and home-based self-hypnosis exercises improved abdominal pain and IBS in children, with benefits lasting at least a year. Rutten et al., 2017 – JAMA Pediatrics (PubMed)
An RCT in children with functional nausea showed hypnotherapy was more effective than standard medical treatment over the first six months. Browne et al., 2022 – Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology
A study of 53 children with anxiety disorders, insomnia and bedwetting reported good-to-excellent long-term results in many cases, with no adverse effects reported. Minosh et al., 2013 – International Journal of Clinical Pediatrics
Research on hypnosis for dental anaesthesia found that children who used hypnosis experienced significantly less pain and anxiety during injections. Huet et al., 2011 – International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis
A recent meta-analysis of hypnosis across many conditions reported that children and adolescents often showed some of the largest benefits from hypnotic interventions. Rosendahl et al., 2024 – Frontiers in Psychology
