Calm your nerves, concentrate better and perform at your best in exams in 2-4 appointments
Hello, I’m Ailsa Frank – a UK-based hypnotherapist, I connected with clients around the world. I’ve spent over twenty years helping students and adults manage exam stress, overcome study blocks and feel confident in the exam room.
I work with school pupils (usually from age 11+), teens sitting GCSEs and A-levels, university and college students, adult learners taking professional or career-related exams such as bar exams.
Appointments can be for you, or you may be a parent booking for your child or teenager.
Exam pressure can come from many places:
You may know your subject but still:
Hypnotherapy works at the subconscious level, where habits and beliefs are stored. We use it to:
Instead of feeling overwhelmed and blocked, you begin to feel organised, calmer and more capable. I can help you get your mind into gear.
“If you recognise yourself here, the problem isn’t intelligence or effort: it’s anxiety blocking access to what you already know. Hypnotherapy helps calm the mind so you can focus and perform at your best.”
Lucy, Surrey

Exam stress and study-focus hypnotherapy may be helpful if:
I’ll guide you step by step to achieve lasting change.
At home on the phone: I connect with English-speaking clients worldwide (UK, Europe, USA, Australia) via phone or WhatsApp audio, which works exceptionally well for hypnotherapy.
In-Person: I also see clients face-to-face at clinics at the Portland Clinic in Wimpole Street, London (W1) or in St Albans.

90 Minutes: The first half is a relaxed discussion. We talk about what is going on in your life and what you want to work on. We discuss patterns, triggers and goals. In the second half, I guide you through a tailored hypnotherapy session to release root causes and begin making changes immediately. You can cover multiple issues in each session.

60–75 Minutes: These are usually spaced two weeks apart to reinforce the changes and address any new layers that come up. Each session deepens the changes. You can have a top up at time in the future. Some clients like to have regular sessions to deal with life , work and business issues as they arise.

I typically work with clients over 2 to 4 appointments. I believe in a bespoke approach, some hypnotherapists might try to sign you up for a long, expensive course. I don't work that way. I start with a minimum of two appointments, with further sessions booked only based on your individual needs.

The hypnotherapy appointments worked like magic to get me focused with a structured study plan and stick to what had to be done. My head felt clearer and ready to take on the information. Ailsa helped me pass my legal exams.
Olivia, Raleigh, US
One session with Ailsa really helped my studies and helped me relax at my exam. I only reviewed my work twice and was able to recall the information accurately. It used to take me five times as long!
Natalie, Berkshire
Very comfortable and relaxing hypnotherapy session. I try to make time each evening to listen to the relaxing hypnosis recording and do the relaxation routine.
Evelyn, Berkshire
My mind is more focused since the hypnotherapy sessions. I am more structured with my study routine and I instinctively seem to know the order to study in to get the best from myself. I used to spend more time thinking about doing it rather than just getting on with it. The procrastination is a thing of the past and I find it surprising to say but I seem to enjoy studying now.
Marcus, Edinburgh
Having failed several exams in the past the stress of sitting new ones was overwhelming to the point I could not focus or study. Without the hypnotherapy I am sure I would have failed again but the sessions rewrote my past and got me in the best place to get on with everything – I passed!!
Steve, Ascot
Thank you for help with my banking exams, everything went amazingly well!
Anita, Slough
The hypnotherapy brainwashed me into a great routine of study and exam preparation and I passed my solicitor exams in a surprisingly calm way.
Gemma, London
Having gone back to studying at an older age, the hypnotherapy got me focused and made everything much easier.
Shirley, Hertford
Think of hypnotherapy as a fully conscious, deep relaxation. It feels a bit like that lovely, heavy moment when you wake up in the morning but can’t be bothered to get up yet. You are safe, in control, and awake the whole time.
In this relaxed state your mind is:
Whether you’re facing GCSEs, A-levels, university exams or professional qualifications, you don’t have to battle exam stress alone. With the right support, your mind can learn to stay calm, focused and confident – so you can walk into the exam room feeling ready to do yourself justice.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists describes hypnotherapy as a psychological therapy that uses hypnosis to help treat certain mental and physical health conditions and to change habits.
You might feel sceptical or worried that it "won't work for you." That is completely normal. Most of my clients say they wish they had done this sooner.
Exam Panic: You feel sick, shaky or overwhelmed before tests or exams.
Mind Goes Blank: You revise, but freeze or forget everything in the exam.
Procrastination: You avoid revision, then cram late or not at all.
Constant Worry: You can’t stop thinking about failing or not being good enough.
Poor Focus: You sit down to study but get distracted, restless or unfocused.
Past Setbacks: A bad exam experience still affects your confidence now.
Comparison Trap: You compare yourself to others and feel behind or inadequate.
Pressure Overload: Balancing exams with school, work, family or life feels too much.
If you recognise yourself here, the problem isn’t intelligence or effort: it’s anxiety blocking access to what you already know. Hypnotherapy helps calm the mind so you can focus and perform at your best and I can help you.
If you aren't ready for one-to-one sessions yet, you can begin listening immediately with my Feel Amazing Hypnotherapy App. It features over 60 recordings.

Research suggests hypnosis can be a useful tool for reducing test anxiety and improving how students cope with exams:
A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials found that hypnosis had a significant positive effect on reducing exam anxiety in students compared with control conditions. Baker et al., 2009
A randomised trial in medical students found hypnosis more effective than progressive muscle relaxation in reducing test anxiety and shifting attention away from exam-related threat cues. Zhang et al., 2022
A 2023 systematic review of hypnosis interventions for test anxiety concluded that hypnosis generally decreased test anxiety among students, though protocols varied and larger, high-quality trials are still needed. Pachaiappan et al., 2023 systematic review
A 2023 randomised trial reported that self-hypnosis significantly reduced secondary school students overall test anxiety and helped across social, cognitive and tension components of anxiety. Pachaiappan et al., 2023 trial
Pilot research on clinical hypnosis for first-year medical students has also suggested that hypnosis is feasible and potentially helpful for high test-anxious students. Hammer et al., 2020
Taken together, these findings support using hypnotherapy as part of a holistic approach to exam stress, alongside good revision strategies, sensible sleep routines, breaks, movement, nutrition and support from parents, teachers or tutors.

Gentle daily support for stress, sleep, anxiety, alcohol and habits.
